Free Ahoghill Walking Tour

Free Ahoghill Walking Tour

Dr William Roulston, our Research Director is conducting a free walking tour in Ahoghill on 29 September on behalf of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council.

This tour around Ahoghill, County Antrim, will explore a number of aspects of genealogical research and religious history, using the story of James Lawson Drummond and his wife Eliza O’Rorke. Drummond was from a Presbyterian family in Larne, served as a surgeon in the Royal Navy, and was an important figure in the medical and cultural life of Belfast. Eliza was of a Catholic family (though she herself was Church of Ireland), with roots in Breifne (modern-day County Leitrim), but long resident at Ballybollan, near Ahoghill. The tour will include visits to several churches and graveyards in Ahoghill to view the recently restored grave of the Drummonds and to learn more about how church records and gravestone inscriptions can provide vital information for family history research.

The maximum number on the tour is fifteen, and suitable footwear is advised. Prior booking is required.

To book email BraidMuseum@midandeastantrim.gov.uk or telephone 028 2563 5029 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
