Randalstown

Randalstown was enfranchised under a charter granted by Charles II in 1683. It appears to have been enfranchised for purely political purposes. Elections do not appear to have been contested. The O'Neill family were lords of the soil and proprietors of the nearby manor. The borough was disfranchised by the Act of Union and the £15,000 compensation was awarded to the heir of John, Viscount O'Neill, killed at Antrim during the 1798 rebellion.
