Background to the Statutes

What the Members of Parliament in Dublin did during their time in the House of Commons is perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of the history of this institution. To assist research this Introduction to the Statutes guides you through the various classifications of statutes passed in the Irish Parliament between 1692–1800.

To make a more informed decision, you should consult this resource before purchasing records from the statutes database.

The statute database is essentially an index of the statutes with a brief note on the contents of each, the full text is given in the 19 relevant volumes of the Statutes at Large. Dates of statutes are given by classification in the spreadsheet in the History of the Irish Parliament v.I pp.584–93 and also in MPs in Dublin pp.191–200.
