Numerous reports in the British parliamentary papers deal with the issue of education. In the mid to late 1820s nine reports were produced by the Commissioners on the rish Education Enquiry. Of particular interest to genealogists is the Second report of the commission of Irish education enquiry of 1826-7. The appendix to this report lists all the schools then operating in Ireland and is arranged by parish, barony and county. Information is provided on the name of the schoolmaster, the location of the school, the type of building in which classes were held, and the way in which the school was supported financially. The findings make interesting reading and provide a fascinating insight into local education provision in Ireland at this time. This database features the names of teachers in County Fermanagh schools listed in the appendix to the report. In addition to the name of the teacher his or her religion is also given. It is hoped to include all the Ulster counties in this database eventually.
